Lawyers Confirm Messi Sued: Complaint States His Scheduled Participation Was Central to the Contract

A Miami-based event promotion company, VID Music Group, has recently filed a lawsuit against the Argentine Football Association and star player Lionel Messi, alleging breach of contract that resulted in significant financial losses.

According to the law firm representing VID, the company filed the lawsuit last month in the Miami-Dade Circuit Court, citing claims of fraud and breach of contract. The core of the case revolves around an agreement signed in the summer of 2025, under which VID paid $7 million to secure exclusive rights to organize and promote two Argentina national team friendly matches.

In a press release, the law firm emphasized that Messi’s participation was an “essential condition” and a “core component” of the contract, directly impacting the commercial viability of the matches, including ticket sales, broadcasting rights, and sponsorship revenue. The company claims the agreement clearly required Messi to play at least 30 minutes in each match (unless unable due to injury). However, in the match against Venezuela, Messi was not included in the squad and did not feature, instead watching the game from a luxury suite with his family.

The legal team stated that Messi’s absence significantly diminished the commercial value of the event, causing substantial losses to VID. Neither Messi nor the Argentine Football Association has issued an official response to the lawsuit so far. The law firm also announced that a press conference will be held in Miami next week to provide further details about the case.
