According to Mundo Deportivo, despite ongoing financial pressure, Barcelona’s management still plans to make a major push in the upcoming summer transfer window. The club is preparing to invest around €80–90 million to sign top-tier players, while also mentally readying itself for a significant increase in the overall wage bill.
Barcelona is expected to have an extremely busy summer. Unlike previous years, the club may part ways with several key players. The board’s strategy is clear: strictly follow a “sell before buy” policy. Only by offloading players and freeing up salary space will they be able to pursue the two “highlighted” targets on their list — a top-class centre-back and a powerful striker.
Reports suggest that Barcelona has already reached a preliminary agreement on personal terms with Alessandro Bastoni for the centre-back position. The most difficult part now lies in negotiations between the clubs with Inter Milan. In attack, Barcelona is closely monitoring the market. If an opportunity arises and Atlético Madrid are willing to sell, their preferred target would be Julián Álvarez.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the Barcelona board already anticipates a significant rise in wage expenditure next season. This is mainly driven by two factors: salary improvements and contract renewals for players such as Lamine Yamal and Fermín López, and the high wage costs that would come with any major new signings.
Barcelona’s financial objective this summer is to return to La Liga’s “1:1” rule. However, even if this goal is achieved, it does not mean the club will be able to spend freely — every expense will still require careful planning.
On the accounting side, Barcelona’s elimination in the Champions League quarter-finals actually matches the club’s initial budget expectations, meaning there is no additional unexpected revenue.
This season, Barcelona earned around €100 million in total Champions League prize money. However, failing to reach the semi-finals means the club missed out on further substantial rewards. As a result, Barcelona cannot rely on any “unexpected windfall” from European competition to ease transfer pressure. Every financial operation this summer must therefore be based on careful internal adjustments and player sales.
