Chris Wood: Egypt’s Clinical Finishing Could Take Them Deep into the World Cup

In today's second-round FIFA World Cup group-stage match, New Zealand suffered a 3-1 defeat to Egypt. After the game, Chris Wood spoke to Egyptian media outlet Winwin and shared his thoughts on the match.

    On the match

“We played very well in the first half, caused Egypt some problems, and did a good job of limiting their attacking threat. Goals can completely change the course of a game. Egypt were excellent in the second half, and ultimately, scoring goals is what decides matches.”

    A message for Mohamed Salah

“Salah is a fantastic player who has performed brilliantly for both club and country over many years. He is a great player and has been a prominent figure in the Premier League for a long time.”

“If he really does leave, it would be a great loss, but football goes on. We wish Egypt all the best in their upcoming matches, while we now turn our focus to the game against Belgium.”

His expectations for Egypt at the World Cup

“That depends on them. If they continue to take their chances, they are already in a very strong position. If they can do the same again against Iran, I believe they will achieve something special.”

“Today, they showed great strength and an impressive ability to convert opportunities into goals. That is a quality every football team would love to have.”

“Finally, I hope Omar Marmoush can continue Salah’s legacy in the Premier League. He is an excellent player with tremendous talent, and that would be a huge boost for Egyptian football. Thank you.”
