According to The Athletic (TA), the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has decided not to investigate whether FIFA president Gianni Infantino intervened in the decision to lift the World Cup suspension of USMNT player Folarin Balogun, stating that the matter does not fall under its jurisdiction.

Previously, a non-profit organization called Fair Square submitted a complaint to the IOC, accusing Infantino, as an IOC member, of repeatedly violating the principle of political neutrality. The organization claimed that Infantino’s alleged involvement in overturning Balogun’s red-card suspension also breached sporting integrity. However, the IOC determined that the case was outside its scope and would not take any action.

TA reported that, during the complaint process, Fair Square highlighted several instances in which Infantino had publicly supported Donald Trump, including backing Trump’s nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize and referring to Trump as a close friend. However, the IOC ruled that Infantino’s actions did not constitute a violation of its political neutrality principles.
