Real Madrid Turn to Zubimendi as Rodri Move Slips Away

Real Madrid Turn to Zubimendi as Rodri Move Slips Away

    0 0

Real Madrid may have to abandon their pursuit of Rodri as the Spain international moves closer to joining Barcelona. The situation leaves the Spanish giants needing to find another solution for their midfield, an area that has required greater stability since Toni Kroos ended his career. Rodri had been viewed as the ideal candidate, but Real Madrid's prolonged hesitation appears to have weakened their chances of securing the Manchester City midfielder.

Martin Zubimendi could now emerge as one of Real Madrid's most attractive alternatives. The Arsenal midfielder is already familiar to the club, having previously attracted strong interest when he was still playing for Real Sociedad. Xabi Alonso also identified him as a priority target last summer, although Real Madrid ultimately decided against making a move before Zubimendi joined Arsenal. His first season in England was highly successful, playing an important role in Arsenal's Premier League title triumph and Champions League campaign.

Zubimendi's playing style could make him particularly suitable for Real Madrid's midfield. His ability to read the game, distribute from deep areas, and control the tempo offers qualities similar to those previously provided by Kroos. A partnership with Federico Valverde could also give Real Madrid a balanced midfield structure, allowing Zubimendi to remain deeper while Valverde has greater freedom to contribute further forward.

A potential deal for Zubimendi could cost around €70 million, putting his price in a similar range to the investment required for Rodri. However, at 27, Zubimendi offers a longer-term option than the 30-year-old Rodri. Arsenal's midfield depth could also become an important factor following the arrival of Bruno Guimaraes, potentially creating an opening for Real Madrid. After missing out on Rodri, the club may need to act decisively if Zubimendi is to become the next midfield solution for the post-Kroos era.
