Como 1907 have avoided the possibility of becoming a travelling side in their historic 2026/27 Champions League campaign after Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia was officially approved by UEFA as their home venue. The decision comes after concerns over whether the stadium could meet European competition standards, which had previously raised the possibility of Como moving their matches to another ground.

One of the alternatives considered was Mapei Stadium, the home of Sassuolo, located roughly 200 kilometres from Como. Such a move would have taken away the opportunity for supporters to experience the club’s first Champions League campaign in their own city. Instead, Como completed the necessary renovation work at Sinigaglia, allowing the club to remain at its traditional home for the biggest European adventure in its history.

The upgrades included a new stand along with improvements to infrastructure, safety measures and operational facilities required under UEFA regulations. Sinigaglia has been Como’s home since it was built in 1927, meaning the historic venue is approaching its centenary just as the club prepares to welcome elite European football for the first time.

The approval represents another remarkable milestone for Como, who have risen from Serie B to the Champions League within just three seasons. Playing at Sinigaglia gives the occasion an added emotional significance, as the stadium has been closely connected with the club for almost a century. Now, the shores of Lake Como are set to provide the backdrop for a new chapter as the club begins its first journey among Europe’s elite.
