Valencia have made major changes to their football operations after dismissing head coach Carlos Corberán and chief executive officer Ron Gourlay. The decision comes after a disappointing opening to the LaLiga season, with Los Ché sitting at the bottom of the table without a victory after five matches. Their latest setback was a 1-0 defeat away to Sevilla, which extended their losing streak to four games.

Valencia have managed just one goal while conceding 10 during their first five league matches, putting considerable pressure on both Corberán and Gourlay. Corberán had been in charge since December 2024 and initially helped steady the club, guiding them to 12th place in his first season. Despite that progress, the club extended his contract until 2028 in July, but the poor start to the new campaign ultimately brought his tenure to an abrupt end. Across 72 matches, Corberán recorded 28 victories and 26 defeats.

The changes extend beyond the head coach and CEO, with Valencia also ending the contracts of Corberán's coaching staff and four members of Gourlay's team. The decision comes only days after midfielder Rodri faced criticism for comments that appeared to describe Valencia as a weak side following Barcelona's 5-0 victory. The incident added further attention to the club's difficult situation, although Valencia's decision is primarily liked to their disappointing sporting results and the need for a fresh direction.

For now, Óscar Sánchez, who has been working with VCF Mestalla, will take temporary charge of the first team. Valencia have also brought back Braulio Vázquez as sporting director, a position he previously held between 2010 and 2013. The club are now looking to restore stability and build a more competitive structure as they attempt to recover from their poor start and move away from the bottom of LaLiga.
