According to L’Équipe, Didier Deschamps is currently enjoying a period of rest and may not return to coaching until after November, or even as late as the end of the season. Deschamps will assess the offers and opportunities available to him at that time and has no intention of rushing into a decision about his future.

Zinedine Zidane announced his first squad as France head coach last Friday, with the 23 selected players arriving at the Clairefontaine training centre on Monday. Zidane and his coaching staff have already begun preparing the team’s tactical plans and organising their activities off the pitch. France are expected to line up in a 4-3-3 formation, with Kylian Mbappé operating on the left wing and Ousmane Dembélé playing as the central striker.

Deschamps managed France for 14 years and led the team to the 2018 FIFA World Cup title in Russia. Last summer, he ended his tenure as France coach following the World Cup jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico. France were beaten by Spain in the semi-finals before losing to England in the third-place play-off.

After the World Cup, Deschamps reportedly felt that he had not received sufficient support from the French Football Federation and subsequently stepped down. RMC Sport previously reported that Deschamps had held talks with Al Ahli, although the two sides eventually disagreed on certain matters.

Now 57, Deschamps is currently spending his free time with family and friends and frequently visits his second home in Finistère. He was also recently seen attending the French third-tier match between Concarneau and Caen, where he presented the awards after the game.

Deschamps remains keen to return to management but wants to take some time to rest first. L’Équipe reports that he will consider coaching opportunities that match his preferences and does not intend to remain away from the dugout for an extended period, unlike Zidane and some other high-profile coaches.
